June 2020

Dear Wilmington Jewish Film Festival Supporters,

You may have been wondering about the status of the Wilmington Jewish Film Festival and whether or not we will be rescheduling our spring festival for this year.  We have been paying close attention to experts and various groups and organizations, including the NC Arts Council and the Wilmington/NHC Arts Council for direction.

After careful consideration, we have decided to cancel this year's annual festival and reschedule it for April 2021, during our regular time frame. We are all very disappointed at this outcome but the most important thing is the safety and well-being of our film-goers and our volunteers.

We had been hoping that the situation with the virus would improve and that we would have been able to reschedule the festival for the summer.  There is a lot of interest in our city reopening but there is general agreement that the presentation of the cultural arts will look very different in the short term. There is no question that all indoor venues will be limiting their audiences in order to allow for social distancing. In addition, there will be no self serving of food.

Over the next 6 months, we will continue to monitor how things are playing out with the virus and with other cultural arts programs. There is a possibility, with the right circumstances, that we could offer a pop-up film or two between now and next April, or consider presenting more films virtually. But, even if not, we are hopeful that by next April, we will be able to proceed with the quality of programming you have come to expect from the Wilmington Jewish Film Festival.

Thank you for your interest and support of the Wilmington Jewish Film Festival.

Best Regards,

Debbie Smith

Festival Chair

The Wilmington Jewish Film Festival, in association with the Wilmington United Jewish Appeal and with the support of other community groups, is a nonprofit 501(c) (3) organization whose mission is, through the screening of excellent films with Jewish content, to promote a deeper understanding of Jewish history and contemporary Jewish culture. We hope to inspire appreciation for the various forms of Jewish identity and to foster a warm sense of community.

We also wish to celebrate our heritage with the general public as we offer the larger community a forum for discussion, debate, and education on the range of Jewish experiences and themes portrayed in the films we screen.
